Three years after »Lumino Pleco«, Gi Gi has released his second album for Quiet Time Tapes. The album and one of the eight tracks are named after an aeroplane: »Dreamliner«. Other pieces are called »Omnibus« or »Far-Flung«. Compared to its predecessor, more movement enters the fundamentally ambient soundscapes of the Texan. Gi Gi adds rhythmic structures from downtempo and trip-hop, but also Balearic themes that closely resemble RAMZi (»Wicker«), and Funki Porcini (»Dizzying«). »Thistle (Thrown)« is almost dub-techno.
In this »almost« lies the essence of the music on »Dreamliner«, the fourth album overall by Gi Gi, who has also previously released on Good Morning Tapes or INDEX. The music imitates something without being something, is en route to something, searching, testing. What unites the various musical approaches is a dreamy escapism that is fundamentally seeking comfort and nostalgia.
