Golden Diskó Ship is actually Theresa Stroetges, who also makes the most gentle dolphins dance with her album »Oval Sun Patch«. The fifth solo album from the German musician and multi-instrumentalist is pop, but somehow not. The artist’s experimental approach clashes with her own listening habits, like »Ephermal Carnivores« with a »Well-Oiled Machine«. But fortunately it fits in well with the funky mood that culminates in the twelve-minute »Earth Before The Space Pt. I-III«. The fact that this track is based on an audiovisual performance explains the fundamentally performative character of the six songs. At times you almost feel lost in a Tame Impala album before you are hammered back onto the tarmac. Good thing Stroetges provided helmets. »Oval Sun Patch« is certainly the kind of music you will want to listen to when you’re stranded on an island and about to go mad, but rescue boats are flashing on the horizon. It’s also existential pop music at the same time, whatever that means. One thing’s for sure: you won’t get bored with this album, and yes, there are soft helmets too.
