KNOW

Knights Of Pleasure

Anna Logue • 2025

According to Discogs, only 18 people officially own the 1982 7-inch Times Change – and one of them paid almost €300 for it over four years ago. That really shouldn’t have been necessary. While the original master tapes remain lost, both tracks by KNOW have now been carefully remastered from vinyl and reissued for the first time in over 40 years.

The wait was worth it. The two tracks by brothers Neil and Gary Todd – the only ones they ever shared with the public, albeit a rather compact one – exude a floating momentum, a mysterious danceability. It’s the same elusive quality that defines many of the lightly warbling DIY productions of the era, where you can practically hear the dusty, modest studio they were recorded in.

That analogue, slightly abrasive sound pressed from machines proudly bearing names like Roland, Moog or Korg is emulated to perfection here – on the almost spooky »Knights Of Pleasure« as well as the understated hit Times Change. As a bonus, the EP includes four cover versions, including contributions from genre heavyweights like Blipblop and the Bremen-based Stefan Bornhorst aka The Silicon Scientist.
