The début of Psyché sounds like the wind: constantly fleeting in its melodies and dreamy in its themes. No wonder the three band members, Marcello Giannini, Andrea De Fazio and Paolo Petrella, have been roaming the Naples music scene for almost two decades, working on various projects. Meaning, their paths crossed, and they got to know one another. Which can be heard in the music. And now Psyché, psychedelic world music, but without the clichés that are associated with both components. Even when a track like »Manea« becomes a little more straightforward, it is always infused with the spirit of jazz. The guitar is allowed to contribute a solo while the drums settle into a faster beat.
On »Hekate«, the instruments seduce the audience more actively, but at a distance for some reason, intangible and yet harmoniously engaging. What’s best about this album: It’s easy to listen to at any time. Middle of the night? Just perfect for floating away with the sounds. Monday morning? The ultimate easy way to start the day. An album so straightforward, so to the point and yet never quite fathomable. Great art sometimes has to do no more than confuse us. In the case of »Psyché«, there is also the feeling of happiness. And that is something that definitively remains after this album.
