Rosa Anschütz

Goldener Strom

BPitch • 2022

In the midst of cybernetic self-regulation and the tender poetry of existence, the daily struggle to continue rattles on, and it is precisely into this uncomfortable void that Rosa Anschütz’s »Goldener Strom« pumps out at 140 BPM. The album is her label debut with BPitch Control. And while her first album »Votive« from 2020 went in a different direction, the snottier successor now follows up on the success that the Kobosil remix of her song »Rigid« brought her. The Berliner manages a club-ready mix of techno and dark wave elements; more than anything else, however, her ability to make exterior stories out of interior processes is still sublime. Rosa Anschütz uses raucous beats as a means to an end, as background music for her narrated honesties. And they come in many forms: from soft murmurs to tinkling flute samples (»Sold Out«) to threatening spoken word to coquettish Neue Deutsche Welle tribute vocals. Characteristically, no distinction is made between the rough and quiet sides of life and music. Rosa Anschütz comes across as a digital age chansonniere fascinated by the broken with a punk attitude, self-determined only in fragility, loud only in caution. Despite the joy of combination, the nine tracks, which were recorded in as short a time as possible with Stamm’s co-producer Jan Wagner, form a consistent snapshot. You will think of Boy Harsher here or Frische Farbe there, but unlike the short formula according to Heraclitus, which became famous thanks to wall tattoos in wellness oases, not everything flows here, but a »golden stream«. And this has a remarkably high recognition value – also and especially outside of wellness oases.
