Twit One’s instrumentals are classically created on the MPC and contain all ingredients for exemplary »HipHop-Beats«. Exquisite samples are being garnished with carefully dissected drumbreaks and gently seasoned with illustrious vocal-snippets. It’s just that they don’t even want to sound like ordinary »HipHop-Beats« or even »Rap-Instrumentals«. Neither the single break, nor the individual components of Kick, Snare and Hi-Hat are the center of attention here. Twit One always looks for that one carefully selected sample, dresses it up in collage-like patterns and yet again proves his excellent knack with exquisite melodies and formidable grooves. Here, there and everywhere, it’s dripping with Soul and Jazz. Layer by layer, with flute, saxophone and piano, he arranges one delicately cut instrument with the following, and, beat by beat, demonstrates his knowledge of the forefathers of Groove: the man knows his Soul, knows his Jazz and knows his Rap. Melody by melody, he dissects the essence of the individual types of tunes and thereby creates an impressively affirmative record. It’s quite a summery album (as seen on the cover), on which the highlight-tune Jederliebtihn combines Roy Ayers, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Ann Peebles in Twit One’s very distinctive way. Even the shortness of the 16 tracks doesn’t dampen it all and is easy to forget in all this – and i use this attribute rather reluctantly – »freshness« .
