Mansions and Millions is a German record label from Berlin, founded in 2014 by Anton Teichmann. »Little by little, I slipped into an artistic and musically fruitful circle of friends in Neukölln«, Teichmannn recollects the initial ignition of the mainly, however not exclusively tapes-orientated label. »With the experience I had already collected it became clear to me, that I would like to help the music and the artists to attract more people«, he says and also adds that he was equally looking forward to the time when Berlin as a music city would not be constantly associated with Techno. So the roster of Mansions and Millions bustles, harsh noise acts like Tooth Decay also sit peacefully next to experimental pop by Pictorial Candi. Teichmann, whose acts on the self-explainatory DIY label integrate with as many decisions as possible, sees however a common theme. »Every artist, whom I work together with, always has somewhere a playful-experimental approach to music«. Furthermore, the squad naturally nurtures from personal connections. »For example Bataille Solaria and Touchy Mob know each other from Montreal and via mutual friends, which is the way with all the acts on the label.« The friendships, which spin themselves around the label, reach a lot further than Neukölln, where Mansions and Millions took on their beginning. Teichmann’s networking goes so far as to boost the cassette as a medium as co-organiser of the German Cassette Store Days. »Even though I still love vinyl, the boom has made it harder for smaller labels. In the meantime, tapes offer several advantages against vinyl and for me it is no hipster gimmick, rather a serious format, which makes it possible for smaller artists to attractively publish their music. In addition, for fans it is a much cheaper possibility to support their favorite acts«. That was also the initial ignition for Mansions and Millions, to make small acts via their sphere of influence well known, from Neukölln to Montreal.
