Sony Music Entertainment is an American record label. It is one of the three major labels, along with Universal Music and Warner Music. The label was originally founded in 1887 as Columbia Records. Since 1968 there has been a joint venture with the Sony corporation. In 1987, Sony finally took over Columbia Records, and in 1991 the name was changed to Sony Music Entertainment.
