Xmal Deutschland was a band from Hamburg, Germany, founded in 1980 by Anja Huwe, Manuela Rickers, Fiona Sangster, Rita Simonsen and Caro May. Stylistically, they moved between post-punk, gothic rock and new wave. Releases like Fetisch (1983) on 4AD show a clear orientation towards a dark, atmospheric guitar sound with a repetitive structure.
