Hardly any other producer is as present and at the same time as enigmatic as Shinichi Atobe. Since his rediscovery by Demdike Stare in 2014, he has been releasing house, dub techno and ambient in fluid transitions – always in the twilight between movement and standstill. Whispers Into The Void / Fleeting_637 is the first 12″ to be released on his own label Plastic & Sounds.
‘Whispers Into The Void’ opens with floating chords, restrained rhythms and a warm dub groove in the background – music like a night-time car journey through fog, meditative and clear. ‘Fleeting_637’ on the B-side picks up the tempo: the bass pulsates, the kick drum gains weight while the synths seem to glow underwater. Demanding, yet carried by the elegance that makes Atobe’s productions unmistakable.
