The summer calls for summer records. Not just because it’s an old record labels’ selling strategy but also because the need for sounds fitting the hot temperatures and all their promises has been carefully cultivated. The music arising from these circumstances is by far not the worst. Eddie C’s »On the Shore«, for example, already carries its purpose in the title. It’s the third record that the Canadian DJ and producer who now lives in Berlin has released under the flag of Endless Flight a sublabel for Mule-Musiq. He contents himself with just a few samples, prolonged with a steady hand to achieve a maximal effective mixing ratio. The soundtrack bubbles neatly on the surface while generating an inner tension that seems as subconsciously as it is reliably sexy. Eddie C is an artist of seduction, who creates the impression of just casually looping around. This time, he focuses on Balearic ingredients, as if he wanted to simulate the beach with all possible means. Funnily, according to the artist himself, the record’s title was inspired by the shores of the “Panke” in Berlin’s district of Wedding – »shore« being applicable to both the limitations of inland waters as well as coastal waters. However, this doesn’t change the mood transported by these twelve tracks. Despite their relaxedness, they don’t lack melancholy or depth without ever drifting into dully weeping gestures – Eddie C is much too elegant for those. This record pretty much replaces the beach wherever you go.
