There has been a lot of talk about the early nineties lately. As a reissue or contemporary appropriation, with the focus usually on Anglo-Saxon or European productions, see the trance revival. African countries are also back in the spotlight in this retrospective, albeit to a lesser extent, such as South Africa with its bubblegum tradition. This is the home of P.T. House, whose 1991 début album »Big World« is now being reissued for the first time. Here you can hear what was played in the clubs before Kwaito and its descendants. Many elements sound familiar, hip house was certainly important to Nelson Phetole Mohale, head of P.T. House, and his producer Danny Bridgens, greetings to Bomb the Bass and C + C Music Factory. And that was never a bad thing, it’s just a bit lost in the Eurodance aftermath, which has become a bit of an afterthought. It’s hard to avoid such nostalgic feelings when listening to P.T. House, unless you grew up completely without all this stuff. Then you might even be able to rediscover a whole world for yourself, from a more southern point of this planet. Either way, a nice thing.
