Over and over, and due to all kinds of impulses, one keeps asking oneself when listening to »Supermeng«: »Does he really mean that or is he just shitting us?« First of all, the lyrics are full of implications concerning comic-heroes (hence the title), who need to save the human race. Of course, mankind is endangered by amphibious aliens known from all kinds of conspiracy theories, some might even know them under the name of Annunaki. On the side, Schirach illustrates the closeness of these theories and esoterics – the cover shows Schirach getting an injection into his »third eye«, enlightened and ready to save the world through music production. The music that comes with it is just as wound up: in no time at all, it’s jumping through all possible genres of bass-music. There’s a dubstep-bassline here, a Kuduro-allusion there, an aggressive grime-beat, a little sprinkle of Miami bass, some rave, jungle or techno – and what comes out is only a single track! Next song, next madness. In breakneck speed the listener runs through the twelve tracks and is left breathless at the end. Of course, Schirach has done all this (like at Mike Pattons Ipecac) before, even with more tempo and even more nerve-racking, but that doesn’t make his debut on Modeselektor’s Monkeytown Records any more approachable. I’m actually beginning to believe that he’s just shitting us, seriously!
