In the beating heart of Berlin’s dynamic music scene, one name stands out as a beacon of inclusion and change: Meg10. As a passionate event organiser, DJ and politically involved Berlin resident, Gizem Adiyaman carved out an important niche for herself in 2017. Her journey was driven by a desire to find parties that matched her feminist and political ideals.

After a semester abroad, Meg10 returned to Berlin with a burning desire: to find party venues where she could share her passion for music with like-minded people. But to her disappointment, she found few such venues, especially in the hip-hop scene. The lack of suitable event formats was the decisive moment for her to take action and create events that corresponded to her ideals and beliefs.

Hoe__mies, a revolution in the scene

This is how the concept of Hoe__mies was born. Founded as a collective and platform for marginalised communities, especially the queer, black and brown communities, Hoe__mies quickly became a permanent fixture in the Berlin nightlife scene. Meg10’s parties are known for their musical diversity and their inclusive and political message.

The name Hoe__mie is a playful combination of »hoe« and »homie«, challenging discrimination against female sexuality and promoting a sex-positive attitude. By reclaiming these words, Hoe_mies makes a powerful statement against slut-shaming and the stigmatisation of sex work, while celebrating the deep friendship between founders Gizem Adiyaman and Lucia Luciano. Since Lucia Luciano left Hoe_mies, Meg10 has been responsible for its continued existence.

Pioneer of the new club music

As a DJ she covers a wide range of genres from Hip-Hop, Dancehall, Neo-Perreo, 1990s & 2000s classics, Afro & Baile Funk to Jersey Club, House & Breakbeat. She has become known for her genre-defining sound, a virtuoso fusion of hip-hop and electronic music.

Meg10’s work as an event organiser and DJ is closely linked to her political beliefs. Her FLINTA* parties provide a counterpoint to the dominant heteronormative spaces in Berlin. She consistently incorporates her convictions into her events and with her FLINTA_-_Parties offers a counterpoint to the dominant, heteronormative spaces in Berlin. Her tireless commitment and pioneering spirit have made her a central figure in the music scene. She is and will continue to be a powerful voice for inclusivity and change, making the Berlin music industry and nightlife a place where everyone can feel safe, respected and free.
