Azymuth, one of Brazil’s most influential bands, plays live in Hamburg and Berlin

18.11.2024

After 50 years of band history and over 30 studio albums, Azymuth are returning to European stages to mark their anniversary. Azymuth’s unmistakable fusion sound of funk, bossa nova and samba – often referred to as »samba doido« (crazy samba) – makes them one of Brazil’s most iconic bands. Since the 1990s and numerous releases on the New York jazz label Milestone Records, Azymuth has attracted a great deal of attention worldwide and across genres.

Concerts at the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Dekmantel Festival in São Paulo and at Boiler Room testify to the broad recognition that her infectiously rhythmic and melancholic funk music enjoys. Collaborations with Madlib and Jazzmatazz in the early 2000s as well as remixes by Theo Parrish and Ron Trent are also on their list. Even after the death of two founding members, the band around bassist Alex Malheiros, »the last man groovin’«, continues to carry on the spirit and sound of Azymuth with new musicians. Anyone who has the opportunity should not miss the live performances of this extraordinary band on 1 December 2024 at Hamburg’s Kunst and on 12 December 2024 at Berlin’s Lido! HHV Records will be on site in Berlin with a record stand.
