Sanam bring their boundary-crossing take on psych rock to silent green’s Betonhalle on the 28th of April. For their Berlin gig, the Lebanese six-piece receives support from ambient duo gleo.
The Beirut-based collective Sanam was originally founded in 2021 after an invitation by Faust’s Hans-Joachim Irmler to play at the legendary experimental and improv music festival Irtijal. Blending elements from psych and kraut rock as well as folkloristic forms from the Levant and Egypt, their music takes many cues from Lebanon’s vibrant scene for all types of adventurous approaches.

After their debut »Aykathani Malakon« documented the group’s improvisational and live qualities, last year’s »Sametou Sawtan« for Constellation brought the same intensity to the studio—and naturally made it onto our list of the best 50 albums from that year. On it, Sanam showcase the full musical and emotional range of their boundary-crossing approach.
While theirs promises to be a fiery performance, opening act gleo—Berlin-based Irish artists Cathal Berkeley and Ben Higgins—dedicate themselves to »the sound of the sea,« building upon field recordings and live sampling for improvised soundscapes.
