But Sister Nancy isn’t a legend just because of her biggest hit. The fact that she even broke through at all – back in the 1980s! – is already historic. Reggae and dancehall were, and still are, largely male-dominated genres. Sister Nancy is considered the first Jamaican woman to gain international recognition in this scene.
