The cover shows painted railway tracks running alongside photos of beaches, picturesque landscapes and holiday resorts with swimming pools on the island of St. Lucia. Written in yellow letters, you can see the letters T.N.T. for The Night Train of St. Lucia and »Making Tracks«. Yes, »Tracks« as in railway tracks. It’s a bit of a play on words. You have to like it. The record was first released in 1972. Trans Air re-released it as a CD in 2010. On 14 March 2025, it will be also reissued on vinyl via Not Dark Yet. In a limited edition. Exclusively at HHV Records as an orange vinyl edition.
A Caribbean soul masterpiece
»Making Tracks« is considered a Caribbean masterpiece by lovers of soul music and by record collectors alike. The liner notes of the original edition reveal that The Night Train of St. Lucia originated from the band The Superbs, and was led by drummer Rudy Auguste (»definitely one of the most adventurous percussionists in the Caribbean«) and keyboarder Emerson Nurse (»the Caribbean’s answer to Burt Bacharach«). Unfortunately, we couldn’t listen to it beforehand, but from word of mouth, the music should get your dancing shoes on.
