Exactly one year ago, on July 17, 2023, João Donato, the great Brazilian composer, pianist, trombonist, accordionist and one of the inventors of bossa nova, passed away. He was 88 years old. His iconic albums include »A Bad Donato« (1970) and »Quem É Quem« (1973). When João Donato wanted to bring »Quem É Quem« back on stage for the first time in 40 years, he gathered a number of young Brazilian musicians for a live concert, including the musicians from the band Bixiga 70.
The Flair of the good old Days
This encounter resulted in songs that are now being released under the title »Donato Elétrico« for the first time in Europe. The idea for the ten tracks on »Donato Elétrico« was to transfer the sound of his compositions from the 1970s to the here and now, to recapture the atmosphere of that time. The record was first released on CD in 2016 and on vinyl in 2020, but only in Brazil. The Comets Coming label is now releasing »Donato Elétrico« in Europe with new artwork. In addition to the Black Vinyl Edition, there will also be a Mint Green Vinyl Edition limited to 200 copies. This will be available exclusively from HHV Records for the European market.
