Windows彡96, the Brazilian retro cannon with releases on the fashion labels of late modernity – 100% Electronica and Business Casual – emulates again with »Magic Peaks« a past that never happened. You know the schmäh … empty shopping malls, the vibe of sweaty Nike Airs, monstera plants in arcades. And millennials who spew their pathological melancholy in YouTube comments, scrolling high through »Friends« memes all day. All of this is Vaporwave. But it’s also not. After all, the music of producers like Windows彡96 shows how thin the line is between our real memories and the ones we think are real because our brains fill a gap – the feeling of nostalgia for something we can’t tell what it is. »Magic Peaks« sounds more like the nineties than the nineties ever were.
