The Snow EP

Transmigration • 1991

The Transmigration label celebrates its twentieth release with a reissue by Coil. »The Snow« EP was first released in 1991 as a promo single for the album »Love’s Secret Domain«. It features the original mix as well as six different versions of the track, including remixes by band member Peter Christophersen, Jack Dangers and Drew McDowall. While the band has often moved between experimental, neofolk and industrial, this EP is clearly aimed at the dancefloor, without losing sight of the band’s trademark mysterious sound. The EP was remastered at Manmade Mastering in Berlin Kreuzberg.

The opening track, »Driftmix«, sets the scene for the EP and is carried by mystical vocals and an atmospheric accordion sample. The two »Answers Come in Dreams« versions are more functional, focusing on propulsive kicks and driving drums, supported by gliding atonal noises and suggestive vocal fragments. The »Out In The Cold« remix takes the enchanted mood of the intro and adds a danceable component with the driving bass line of the original version. The »As Pure As« version has a playful house feel, with acid sounds and a suggestive trance sequence setting the mood. These tracks still sound interesting and unique and will subtly change the mood of any set, even more than 30 years after their original release.
