The mirrors are polished well. Five years ago Armand Jakobsson alias DJ Seinfeld was still counted among the representatives of rumble-produced lo-fi house. One rather does not get the idea with his second album »Mirrors«. Tidy beats, polished metallic synthesizer chords, high-pitched voices combine to a restrained good-humored vocal-accented style of house, with an artificial sound in which one can find echoes of Eurodance suitable for large halls, occasionally even of hyperpop intended for smaller dance floors. But above all, one gets the impression, DJ Seinfeld wants to win over as many people as possible with his current approach, within the framework of what is still “credible” for him. Which includes that he allows more thoughtful moments like the beatless “Home Calling”. In addition, he indulges in nostalgic deep house memories (“Tell Me One More Time”), which convince with a steady hand and concern for detail, even the strings do not seem cheesy with him, but simply like a consequential gesture of longing. The neat surfaces may irritate at first impression, but clean mirrors have the advantage, after all, that you see yourself all the clearer in them.
