Lucrecia Dalt

No Era Sólida

RVNG Intl • 2020

Absolutely no one can accuse Lucrecia Dalt of being inclined towards excessive repetition. Following the neatly structured patterns of her album »Anticlines« from two years ago, she is now tearing down barriers wherever she can. She has created »No Era Sólida« around the concept of an alter ego named Lia Lucrecia who prefers to make her presence felt through wordless pronouncements. The singing is sometimes hardly distinguishable from the other sounds within which Lucrecia Dalt has used delays to alienate sounds, to eliminate unambiguity and to dissolve, if possible, even the transition from melody to rhythm. As if in an invocation, Dalt begins to sing in English with a heavily processed voice, albeit barely intelligibly. Then the finely tuned sifting of the diffuse sets in. Finally, she sings in Spanish; this time the words are a little clearer. Lucrecia Dalt does not simply leave you standing in billowing cumulus clouds up to then, she prefers to keep her individual events more discreet. Yet, they are so mutated in themselves that their mutual encounters retain something of a sonorous alchemy. One enters these unexplored territories at one’s own risk, but the risk is nevertheless limited. It is like a change of aggregate state of more liberating than frightening effect.
