Some artists use the 303 as a tool for peaktime build-ups. Others build entire artistic frameworks around its squelch and hiss. Om Unit belongs to the latter camp. With »Acid Dub Studies III«, he adds another chapter to his ongoing series—fusing slippery acid basslines with cavernous reverb and time-stretched delays. This is headphone music, sound system meditations, not club bangers.
After a deceptively high-stakes intro, »Frosted« wafts uneasily through the room, promising tension that Om Unit masterfully dials back. »Hungry World« showcases his trademark approach: dubbed-out reggae chords, acid lines that act both as rhythm engines and stylistic glue, plus percussion that breathes with space. The interplay in the mix is key. On »Lost And Found«, a flute—unexpected but perfectly placed—floats through the gelatinous atmosphere and immediately takes center stage. Closing track »Lonely Cities« offers a moment of unfiltered, contemplative beauty.
