With ‘Selected Works: 1995-1999’, Transmigration, in collaboration with the family of the artist Jake Stephenson, presents a selection of four tracks that were created between 1995 and 1999. The British producer, who made music under countless pseudonyms, released around 100 works ranging from ambient to psytrance before his death in 2005. What unites his releases is an unmistakable mood and sonic aesthetic in which you can practically immerse yourself, with finely tuned psychedelic sounds.
“Symbiotic (D-Troit Mix)” is a tribute to Motown and the origins of techno. A hypnotic bassline and acid sequences that disappear into space convey the artistic freedom of late 1980s Detroit. One of the few tracks by Jake Stephenson that clearly points to the dancefloor. “Hypnotic Tripnotic” was released under the pseudonym Dr. Psychedelic. An atmospheric interlude with flattering, playful arpeggios rising like an abstract flock of birds in a morning chorus.
“With The Wind Blows Peace”, one of the two tracks previously released only on CD, evokes nostalgia for the nineties. Spiritual vocals, shimmering, almost organic pads and sharp acid sounds transport the listener in a meditative way to graceful soundscapes that still encourage dancing. “Voyage To Atlantis (Percussion Mix)” uses a similar spirituality, albeit at a slower tempo, and again paints a sonic ambience that invites you to linger.
