Some records don’t want to dominate the dancefloor, they want to transform it. Swamp Spirit, the new EP by Space Drum Meditation, is one such record: four tracks that move between trance state and sound ritual, between dub techno and archaic hypnosis. Liem and Eddie Ness are not releasing on their own label this time, but on the Berlin-based imprint Paryìa, curated by Marie Montexier – a fitting home for their now clearly defined aesthetic.
The title track immediately casts a spell with its organic arrangement. Undulating basses drive the body from left to right, while archaic percussion and field recordings open up imaginary spaces. The other tracks, too, unfold their effect without classic arcs of tension: no drops, no drama – just slow sinking. With his remix of »Nacre«, DJ and producer Blue Hour delivers a dancefloor oriented update that transfers the basic energy of the original into the club light.
Swamp Spirit combines natural sounds, shamanic instrumentation and subtle bass power to create a spiritual dancefloor experience. Decelerated and hypnotic, yet never arbitrary, the EP condenses the aesthetic vocabulary of Space Drum Meditation into an atmospheric trip.
