Tropic Of Cancer’s music sets in at the end of the movie – the killer is dead and the victim, soaked with blood, finally meets civilization again. Since »Lost In Translation« (although it being comparatively harmless.), we all know that Shoegaze is a „finishing move“ and always has been. Because Tropic Of Cancer manage to combine more darkness in their sound then any other band has managed before. Drone and Witch House scratched at the wood before they were buried for good. »Beneath The Light« creates this surface through almost nothing but a crude synth and a puny beat. In the background, you can hear someone singing, maybe a song of pain. It’s like a black hole – the different elements are pulled together, but only to refer to an abnormal infinity eventually. »It’s All Come Undone« drags on like a promise for better times. Again, it’s a thin rhythm, again a voice, that’s hardly to be noticed. This way, Tropic of Cancer take words out of their original form and reduce them to their very meaning. Every second it’s becoming more obvious that this EP is all about the end. The suffering of a single individual summarizes the drama of the entire human race. »The One Left« is probably the track that’s most likely to be grasped. But Tropic of Cancer allows the things to take their course. It goes on, but isolation remains. And finally, the end is just another beginning.
