UK Electronics 1988-1994

Delodio • 2021

Robert Maycock’s most successful tape has sold thirty copies. Just to give you an idea of the dimension in which we are moving. The stuff here is as underground as it gets. Anyway, it has to be said: everything is actually superfluous, except tape compilations. But back to Rober Maycock. Between 1988 and 1994 he ran the label Mindscan Tapes, on which among other things the two compilations were released, whose »Best Of« Delodio has now pressed on vinyl for the first time. »UK Electronics 1988-1994« not only documents the sound of an era, but also captures its spirit. You can see it in front of you. Some jittery lad in his untidy room is overdubbing for other nerds the cassettes of whose existence the other nerds have been informed by flyer. All on speed, arms skinny, hair dyed. Of course, these are just cheap stereotypes, but certainly fair enough as a mood board for the readers. Tough pull on the butt, flick away, turn over the tape. Pretty cool all tracks here. Early Techno is so vibe-like already the setting of this compilation, against whose background but a lot more happens. Kitschy Net-Art-Screensaver-Electronic in the intro, Spunk Weevils totally absurd Rap-Cypher-Spoken-Word-Avantgard-Track »Jenny«, Tribal-Ambient at Richard Leake, a bit Acid at Dreamcore USW. Honestly just RARE AF everything. Sincerely non-conformist material. And thus the strongest and most effective antidote against your own Instagram stream
