Diamondbacks Make Wonderful Pets

PNN Records • 2016

I like the attitude. Myr doesn’t want cool sounds, effective filters, common tricks, which we come across in house music. He also doesn’t want it on his first LP »Diamondbacks Make Wonderful Pets«. Instead he takes time. So much time, that I as a listener have already forgotten the time. An important argument with the tracks, which often draw to an end at the 10 minute border. Again and again, you lose yourself in these sounds. The music can also disappear and you have to listen precisely, in order to recognise where it has hidden itself. And shortly afterwards it can once again creep round the corner, waddling on a new floor and with a new second melody packed in. (»Comings And Goings« is consequently the name of one of the 9 tracks.) I could listen to this Zen-House for hours. It doesn’t bore me for a second. The danger is, to miss out on something else. A small thunderstorm for example (»A Little-Bitty Bowl«). You can not listen to this record in a typical sense, you can not lay the needle in a random place and expect to know what it is about. You must listen to »Diamondbacks Make Wonderful Pets« from front to back. The entire 75 minutes. Afterwards you will have an idea. And then again from the beginning. Then you will have a second idea. »Diamondbacks Make Wonderful Pets« is great. I can not explain it any better. Because it’s something, that captivates me. I am not sure how myr. does it, but he does everything right.
