Change In A Dynamic Environment Pt. 2

Hemlock • 2012

Maybe someone still knows the expression »Technobrett«. The front side of the second part of the »Change In A Dynamic Environment«-trilogy is no less than exactly that. With the title »Caslon«, Untold wakes dark memories of foggy, smelly crawl spaces, where the plastering falls from the ceiling in the rhythm of the bass. It’s a good plagiarism of this coarseness. But, unfortunately, not much more. The surprises the brit amazed us with on the first part of his trilogy, fail to appear on the second. The excursion is straight, the changes restrained. The flip-side shows a lighter shade of Hemlock’s co-founder. »Breathe« blows feathery rhodes-hits through nightly rattle-sounds. Carried by a warming Dub-bassline and some funky claps, this is the best bleary-eyed morning sentiment for some melancholy in your headphones. Great dynamics fail to appear, though. And what remains is the impression that Untold has lost track of his idea of a trilogy. He’ll have to add a few more building blocks for the third part.
