Big celebrations are on the horizon: the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra will mark its 20th anniversary next year and will play two concerts this December — on 14 December in Berlin and 16 December in Hamburg. The 12- to 23-piece ensemble, led by Daniel Glatzel, continues to transcend genre boundaries with its singular blend of jazz, contemporary classical music, Afro-funk, electronica, progressive rock and pop references. For its powerful and unpredictable performances, the group was awarded the German Jazz Prize as »Live Act of the Year 2025«. A new album is planned for 2026.

The extraordinary big band

Glatzel is not only a saxophonist but also the composer and producer behind this remarkable big band, known for its dynamic, unorthodox live performances. In recent months, the orchestra also faced a loss: the Brazilian avant-gardist Hermeto Pascoal (1936–2025) — whose compositions they frequently performed and with whom they collaborated closely — passed away in September. The upcoming concerts will likely carry a quiet sense of tribute.
