Ethio jazz grandmaster Mulatu Astatke honours Berlin with a Live Show

08.01.2024

He is a musical innovator, a legend, a grand master: Mulatu Astatke has founded nothing less than a musical genre. On February 11, 2024, the now 80-year-old musician will be playing live at the Metropol, Berlin.

The father of ethio-jazz

His »Ethio-Jazz« is an unmistakable mixture of Western-influenced jazz and various African and Afro-Cuban influences. The result is a non-electronic Trance music in which the different tempos seem to run into each other. Mulatu Astatke is a master on vibraphone and conga drums, as well as other percussion instruments, keyboards and organ. He has worked with Fela Kuti and Hugh Masekela and performed with Duke Ellington.
