Jazz trumpeter Matthew Halsall ventures into genre crossover on new album

18.07.2023

You can go that far out on a limb: A grown collection of percussion instruments is always a good prerequisite for a new jazz album. Matthew Halsall has built up such a collection over the last few years. On his new album »An Ever Changing View« they will be heard, the new congas and kalimbas, seeds, bells and chimes. The album will be released on September 8, 2023 by Gondwana Records, of which Halsall himself is the founder.

Sound as a blessing

And what else? Matthew Halsall, trumpeter, band leader, Sanders and Coltrane fan, has moved on. Spiritual jazz meditations remain the starting point on »An Ever Changing View«. But the sound has become more electronic. The warm, organic sounds of the above-mentioned percussion and Halsall’s trumpet are increasingly joined by electronic sounds on the new album, warming up, of course. For friends of the Floating Points-Pharoah Sanders collabo, of Yuseef Dayes, Kokoroko, Bonobo possibly even. A Transparent Vinyl Signed Art Print Bundle Edition of »An Ever Changing View« will be available exclusively from HHV.
