Those presumed dead dance the longest! After last year went by without a single release, Project: Squared is now putting their eights 12inch onto the turntables of club-DJs. The record is dressed in corporate design, as always, but still doesn’t just repeat old and long known tryouts. Craig McWhinney, who lives in Melbourne, Australia, plays his way through targeted drum-surfaces, which – seemingly consciously – are only to be found on the a-side. After a harmonious start, however, the pace is increasing in a subliminal manner. Vocal-snippets, only subtly hinted at, mark the beginning of the climax, so that, in the end, the track finds enough time to attend to a calm finish. In contrast, the DJ from Australia starts out the b-side with somewhat more mixed feelings. On »Provocation Is An Excuse«, a haunting and quick hammering draws the listener’s attention from the rhythm, so that the track sounds much louder and scarier than it actually is. In a discreet retraction, almost as the opposite from the previous track, the artist uses his last song to pour oil on troubled water. It’s called »Disengage«, and there could have hardly been a more fitting title. The tenseness, which was created only artificially beforehand, dissolves in a fitting manner and the EP stops abruptly, ending like a last heart beat. It’s an eventful (yet short) rumpus, which only finds its itemization though its reduced appearance.
