Dyslecta and Peder Mannerfelt waste no time on introductions with LNS001, a split EP engineered for peak-time deployment in the club. On »Muckle Drum«, Dyslecta constructs a polyrhythmic low-end throb that evokes the golden days of Hessle Audio – complete with erratic synths and ghostly, disoriented vocal fragments that search without resolution. The track creeps forward like some alien arthropod, relying not on speed but on sheer sonic pressure, not unlike Pessimist’s »Balaklava« or the feverish chases of Forest Drive West.
Mannerfelt’s »Records & Vibes« kicks off at a brisk pace, riding a punchy drum pattern. But instead of sinking the vocal deep in the mix, he lets it claw its way up toward the surface – only to submerge it again in swirling murk. After a brief breakdown, controlled chaos takes over, situated somewhere at the junction of bass music and techno. And yet, despite its steely density and angular contours, there’s an effortless swing here – enough to provoke both headnods and gun fingers on the floor.
Together, Dyslecta and Mannerfelt deliver two tracks tailor-made for selectors who prefer their sets unshackled from strict techno BPM ranges – or who simply approach the genre as a fluid, elastic form. The emphasis here is on unrepentantly bulbous low-end and risk-taking energy – high-impact tools for DJs who like to colour outside the lines.
