Niels Luinenburg has been a prolific producer over the past 15 years and under the moniker Delta Funktionen has proven himself to be a reliable source for rugged dance music from the leftfield. In 2020, he first joined forces with Dutch-based producer Diana Napirelly to create an even edgier sound aesthetic as Immediate Proximity: Dub techniques meet ambient and noise, industrial rhythms or cranky techno grooves meet rattling IDM structures. With »IMPROX 1«, the two now not only launch their own label Improx, but also weave the diverse stylistic strands of their work all the more concisely into their very own, coherent sound.
The opener »Star Map« is a powerful, tension-filled stepper somewhere between early Ilian Rape releases and raster-noton classics and the clear highlight of these seven tracks. Between deep-sea rumbling (»Eridania«), sparse electro renditions (»Wet Cell«) and melancholically sighing sequencers (»Ferce«), however, »IMPROX 1« offers other, consistently convincing recompositions of always similar basic ingredients. A wonderfully versatile mini-LP, whose sound the duo would soon like to present to the world as a live project.
