Lando Kal

Further/Time Out

Hotflush Recordings • 2011

It shouldn’t be surprising anymore that Scuba has the right touch when it comes to selecting artists for his label Hotflush Recordings. Joy Orbison and Mount Kimbie are just two examples that speak volumes. And also Lando Kal, one half of the Ghetto-Boogie-Duo Lazer Sword, is such a lucky choice. Although, everyone familiar with the sound of Lazer Sword will most probably be surprised by Lando Kal’s 12inch. Further / Time Out sounds more grown up, the bass is not as aggressive, the usage of vocals seems more purposeful – the whole sound structure is just more minimalistic and thereby more coherent, somehow. Further on the A-side is definitely the track for the dance floor: good tempo, nice breaks and an incredibly well placed bass-drop make it a sure-fire dancing track. The B-side, Time Out, captivates through many innovatively constructed sound-layers and develops a dark and thrilling atmosphere in less than six minutes, that could well serve as the soundtrack for a boss-monster of Secret of Mana. A debut with a very special touch from the San Franciscan producer that’s thoroughly felicitous.
