LNS & DJ Sotofett

Sputters

Tresor • 2021

Joy of playing. The first impression of the joint album of Canadian producer Laura Sparrow aka LNS and her Norwegian colleague Stefan Mitterer, better known as DJ Sotofett: Two must have had great fun at work. A lot of electro is in use, as well as older-school techno, acid and IDM also make their appearance, with an angular beat and no fear of hearty creaking. A good part of the sounds on this celebration of proven future designs you think you’ve heard somewhere before: Isn’t that percussive synth sound from X-102? A little later a sawing effect reminds of the indestructible electro of Drexciya. And, again in another place, did they possibly sample 3 Phase with his classic »The Sound of the Family«? The fact that »Sputters« was released on the traditional Berlin label Tresor, on which all of the artists mentioned have also released, may easily give rise to fantasies. Nevertheless, similarities cannot be ignored. LNS and DJ Sotofett bow, so it seems, before their role models, and transfer them at the same time with their passionate and access into the present. Also fun to listen to.
