Mark E has come forward with two new releases on Futureboogie Recordings the titles of which unmistakably proclaim their functions: »Basement Trax 1« and »Basement Trax 2«. After having mostly devoted himself to (re-)releasing new and old edits, which overnight made him become the showcase producer of the edit-movement a few years back, he has once again turned to creating fodder for the (late) hours in basement clubs. Clearly, their mesmerizing pull is deeply rooted in the tradition of Wild Pitch. It’s not the first time that Mark E has taken this action – there are many tracks, especially on his debut »Stone Breaker« which almost burst with the formative influence of Nathaniel Pierre Jones aka DJ Pierre. A thumping bassdrum, short and scratching bass-snippets straight from the 303, combined with the interaction of different synth-layers gradually piled up, accompanied by reoccurring strings – now that’s good ol’ Wild-Pitch-school. Mark E was a good student, who knows exactly how to use a predictable construction kit – both tracks are almost compositionally congruent – in order to turn it into a compelling state of euphoria.
