For years, records of the »godchild« of Motor City were a seldom and well looked-for cultural asset – in the past months, though, Rick Wilhite excites us with monthly releases. Besides an EP on StillLove4Music, two re-issues of legendary KDJ-singles were released for the dutch by Rush Hour as well as a praised contribution to a compilation (Vibes: New and rare Music) and several wallowing DJ-Sets in the web-cloud. Finally, the highlight: With Analog Aquarium, the man who made his producer skills public in the Eighties with a remix for Juan Atkins, releases his long-awaited debut. Analog Aquarium was presumably going to sound like the records we had been craving every month. Illustrious guests like Theo Parrish, Marcellus Pittman and Osunlade line up and participate in this fulminant debut. House-music is not programmed, it is played here, it is jammed, lived and preached with sacral dedication. In no other house-album in recent years, the vision which was originally thought of as »High Tech Soul« or »Electronic Funk Music« from Detroit (and, of course, Chicago) and finally ended up with the label Techno, has ever been so obvious. Again: fulminant.
