The fact that San Francisco-based producer Sepehr Alimagham has called the second track on his debut album »Shaytoon« »Contamination« almost makes him look like the producer of the hour. But in this case one would like to refrain from making reflexive references to the world situation and just listen to it. Because Sepehr builds into his tracks precisely set rhythmic stumbling blocks that show early Detroit techno as a model, but are not satisfied with solid stylistic confidence, but continue to develop independently. This can be seen in details such as the interplay of voices and beat in the aforementioned »Contamination« or, even more so, in »Coup d’état«, for which Sepehr dissects the spoken words of a female voice and runs them against the drum computer as a second rhythm track. And when he feels like it, he just lets it become acid. With all the strength that goes with it. »Shaytoon« also contains a layer that is rather indirectly revealed when listening to it, as Sepehr has proven his reference to a number of Iranian albums he grew up with in the seventies.
