This summer, Berlin’s Gaswerksiedlung will once again become a meeting point and stage for adventurous artists presenting music between jazz, improvisation, electronic sound and off-centre pop – for the fourth time already. Across two weekends, from 24 to 26 July and from 31 July to 2 August, the festival will unfold over six days, each with its own distinct curatorial focus. The line-up, still continuing to grow, will play across two stages and has once again been curated together with partner festival Nyege Nyege – which is why African musical culture features so prominently in the programme.
From the community – for the community
The festival understands itself less as a tightly packed showcase than as an invitation to listen together. Music here emerges in the moment – through improvisation, collaboration and the deliberate testing of sound. With a reduced daily structure, longer sets and room for pauses, the format privileges attentiveness over overstimulation. Performances take place throughout the Gaswerksiedlung itself, between open-air sites such as the gART.n, the concert space BLOCK1 and the surrounding studios, which serve not merely as backdrop but are actively integrated into the musical process.
The festival is also evidence of a form of communal collaboration that extends beyond the event itself. Music is not only presented here, but developed – the process is literally audible. Sounds created between April and July as part of the residency model will also be performed during the festival. These working phases, often in connection with Nyege Nyege and international artists, lead to new collaborations and material that flows directly into the programme. The current line-up includes Rabih Beaini, Trismo, Shackleton and Valentina Magaletti as Holy Tongue, Azu Tiwaline, MC Yallah + DJ Scotch Rolex, Burnt Friedman & João Pais Filipe, Kenneth Scott und Rhythms of Prescott and many more.

Away from the stages, too, the festival is conceived as a space of encounter – not least with an HHV record stand on site.
