Joy Guidry brings her experimental bassoon playing to Cologne

29.04.2025

Joy Guidry explores the sonic possibilities of the bassoon – and breaks musical categories in the process. The New York-based musician combines the classical woodwind instrument with electronics, noise, and free improvisation. Her work moves between jazz, contemporary music and experimental soundscapes, exploring themes of identity, vulnerability and self-determination – most recently on Radical Acceptance (2022) and Amen (2024).

Music between Composition and Intuition

Guidry performs in museums, opera houses, and festivals, always creating spaces of intimacy and radical openness. On May 23, 2025 she will perform at King Georg in Cologne. Her concert promises to be an intimate, powerful exploration of the moment, of sound as political expression – and of an instrument that, in her hands, is breaking new ground.
