How fortunate that the four-piece band Theodor decided last year to bring their project, which had been planned purely as a recording project during the pandemic, to the stage – and thus immerse us in their psychedelic soundscapes live for a concert at Hamburg’s Knust on 28 February 2025. The members come from Darmstadt, but their decelerated, blues and soul-inspired musical style suggests roots in more distant realms and times long past.

No wonder – after all, legends such as Nigerian drummer Tony Allen, who died in 2020, and Italian cult composer Piero Umiliani are among their influences. But Mac DeMarco, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Vanishing Twin also characterise the sound of the Hessian band. Recently, in November 2024, the band released their second album »Holocene«, on which they pay homage to their psychedelic role models with soft bass lines and funky synthesizers.
