An evening of two acts leading into oscillating sound worlds between abstraction and accessibility: that is what 30 April at Kantine Berghain in Berlin promises, when the ensemble Zinc & Copper meet the sound researcher Jasmine Guffond.

Blowing brass and stretching time
Jasmine Guffond is as interested in experimentation as she is in traditional sonic structures. Her album Muzak for the Encouragement of Unproductivity (2025) takes inspiration from lift music: a sonic down-tempo dystopia that at the same time soothes and lulls. In live performance, Guffond is also concerned with sound as a physical force and, at times, does not shy away from extreme dynamics.
Zinc & Copper have carved out a niche of their own within contemporary music through their use of deep, warm-sounding brass instruments. Tubist Robin Hayward, horn player Elena Kakaliagou and trombonist Hilary Jeffery use repetitive structures to give microtonal shifts room to unfold – in the process turning their music into a meditation on the passing of time.
