The Sweet Vandals

So Clear

Unique • 2011

»We love what we do«. With these few words, The Sweet Vandals keep explaining to music journalists, why their sudatory live-shows literally sweep their audience off their feet. That’s hardly a surprise, considering that the members of the five-man band from Spain actually describe their distinctive sound as exceptionally »dirty« and club-compliant. So Clear is the name of their new album, which turns out to be an inevitable purchase for funk lovers while at the same time seamlessly following up to their previous album Lovelite. Timeless, warm and rough sounds which defy all notions of sensationalism become a unique and authentic masterpiece, garnished with lyrics and perfected by the singer Mayka Edjole. In addition, the protagonists were supported by flautist and saxophonist Chip Wickham, the string quartet of the national Spanish orchestra and various background-singers of Spain’s Jazz and Funk scene when recording their fifth LP. While Move It On and Tiger groove beyond belief, the soft and emotional sounds of I Love You More Than Words Can Say and Till I Found You grant the listener a regenerating pause, before You Reap What You Sow yet again tests all extremities for their resilience and kindly but insistently asks for a posture adequate for dancing.
