The Mark Tree is ringing in a thousand winds, the bass is low to the ground, but the rhythm is calling you up to dance: Jitwam’s music is so versatile that the multi-instrumentalist can still be described as underrated, even if The Guardian and others have proclaimed him the next big thing. He comes to Hamburg’s Knust on May 7, 2024.
(Not) a long way to go
His early compositions are best described as Brainfeeder. Flying Lotus and the heyday of the Los Angeles beat scene are the closest relatives of this sound – with a bit more soul thrown in, but soul more like… Moodyman gets it. On his latest album »Third«, beat music has taken a back seat, but Jitwam has stepped into the spotlight, getting carried away with old-school funk and Latin grooves.
