Silvan Strauss brings solo album »Facing« to Berlin stage

14.02.2023

Silvan Strauss was not only awarded the Hamburg Jazz Prize in 2021, but also celebrated the release of his first solo album »Facing« one year later. On March 11th, 2023, the Hamburg based drummer will now play live under the vaulted ceiling of the Club Gretchen in Berlin and will thrill the audience in the former military stables with his varied style of different jazz styles and urban sounds.

Perfectly imperfect

Silvan Strauss was once a member of the Bavarian Youth Jazz Orchestra and later played in the Federal Jazz Orchestra »BuJazzO« during his jazz studies at the Hamburg Academy of Music. The drummer and producer became known through his band TOYTOY and also through his collaboration with artists such as Maria João, Soweto Kinch, Omer Klein, Guinga and Nils Landgren.

Strauss’ first solo album »Facing« was released on Kabul Fire Records in November last year. In collaboration with 15 musicians, including Joe Armon-Jones from Ezra Collective, and Farhot as producer, an album was created on which distorted synthesizers, drums, basses, 90s hip-hop, Afrobeat and all kinds of percussion instruments found their place. Let’s see how he will bring this to the stage.
